Jack P. Oakley Portfolio Game Programmer/Designer

About Me

Starting with Command and Conquer: Red Alert on the PC, Jack has spent more hours in level editors (of games that have them) than hours playing the games themselves. Such early games include Timesplitters 2, and Timesplitters: Future Perfect, but he did not stop there, he continued on to the Halo series, and many more.

Jack earned the rank of Eagle Scout in March 2005. He then graduated High School in Prescott, Arizona in 2005 and moved to the Phoenix area to pursue a career in the Video Game Industry. He started his career in this industry by beginning a course at Collins College in October 2005. While at Collins College, Jack joined the Career Club in order to seek out a job in the industry. He then was hired as a Tester at D3Publisher of America, Inc. Jack worked hard, strived for excellence, and was promoted to Senior Tester in May 2008. As a tester, Jack worked on fifteen projects across nine Platforms. As a Senior Tester, he has worked on ten projects across six Platforms, four of which he led the project. He graduated from Collins College with a Bachelor of Arts in Game Design in May 2008. D3Publisher of America was bought by Bandai-Namco in 2009 and the Arizona office was shut down in December of 2009, laying off all of its employees.

In March 2010, Jack found a job working at Quest Online, LLC testing the massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) of Alganon. Quest Online was working on changing their pay to play MMO into a free to play MMO to generate more revenue. Jack worked hard to make sure the bugs were tracked down and fixed in the ongoing patches of Alganon. He was even able to completely clear up the backlog of player reported tickets. From his hard work, he was promoted from QA Analyst to QA Organizer and took on the Customer Service Game Master role in January 2011. Despite the continued efforts of the team, the company did not generate enough revenue and shut down in March 2012.

In June 2012, Jack began working as a Tier 1 Technical Support Agent for Endurance International Group. In May 2013, Jack voiced some concerns about changes that were taking place within the company and was laid off shortly after. After spending six months searching for a job with no success, Jack decided to go back to school and work toward a second degree. In order to qualify for the Master’s Degree program for Computer Science, he had to take some programming classes. Several universities decided that Jack’s Bachelor degree was not accredited since Collins College lost its accreditation. Due to this, Jack started over with a new Associate’s Degree.

Jack began at Mesa Community College (MCC) in January 2014, working toward his Associate’s Degree with focus on Computer Science. With his high marks, he joined the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and shortly thereafter he took Honor’s Object Oriented Programming then became the school’s first Computer Science Tutor in January 2015. He earned two Associate’s Degrees while attending MCC; Associate in Science with High Distinction, General Education Certificate with Distinction, and earned a total of 79 credits in December 2017. While tutoring, Jack earned internationally recognized CRLA certification. He earned level 1 during the fall semester 2015, level 2 in fall 2017, and level 3 (Master level) in spring 2018. He took the GRE in February 2018 and applied to the University of Central Florida (UCF) for the Computer Science Master’s Degree program.

Jack moved to the Orlando area in Florida. He began at UCF in the fall semester 2018 and completed his Master’s in Computer Science in May 2021. While attending UCF, he worked as a research and development contract designing drone swarm tactics in Python and VR UI implementations for the DARPA OFFSET project. He is now looking to get back into the game industry and put his skills to work. He has moved to Austin, Texas and is looking for work in the area.
